Each June, we join individuals, families, caregivers, and organizations across the country in recognizing Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month. This is a meaningful time to honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, raise awareness, and promote lifelong brain health.
More than 6 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer’s, and millions more serve as caregivers, many of them in home settings just like ours. At Connecticut Nursing Services, we witness firsthand the impact this disease has not just on memory, but on families, relationships, and quality of life. That’s why this month holds a special place in our hearts.
Why It Matters
Alzheimer’s is more than memory loss. It’s a progressive neurological disease that affects thinking, behavior, and daily function. Understanding the signs, promoting early detection, and supporting research are crucial in the fight against this devastating illness.
This month is also about supporting our caregivers, many of whom provide care to individuals living with dementia. Their work requires extraordinary patience, compassion, and skill. Whether it’s guiding a client through a familiar daily routine, managing behavioral changes, or simply offering a calm and caring presence, our caregivers play a vital role in preserving dignity and comfort.
